The man on the right Willi Pohnert

Colditz Prison, December 1942.

The man on the right, Willi Pohnert, was a German civilian and the Colditz prison camp electrician. He was such a regular visitor to the prison that he did not need a pass. On December 28th 1942, some French prisoners deliberately fused the electrical system and Willi was called to fix it. The man on the left is French Officer Lieutenant Perodeau. He closely resembled Willi and attempted to walk out of Colditz disguised as Willi. Unfortunately he was caught when the guard made a mistake and asked for his pass.
